Our Roots: A Family Journey from Farm to Organic Oils

ÍON Oils and Spices is a family-owned business, founded by Andrea and Markus Milley in Portarlington. Our journey began in the 1980s when we purchased a farm in Laois, Ireland, where we raised beef cattle, grew barley and wheat, and operated a timber business. After spending a few years in Germany due to family circumstances, we returned to Ireland in 2018, eager to explore new opportunities and reconnect with the Irish countryside.

The Birth of ÍON Oils and Spices

Upon our return, our eldest son, with his B.Sc. in Agricultural Science, inspired us to transition our farm to organic practices. He introduced the idea of producing cold-pressed oils, recognizing the growing demand for high-quality, organic oils in Ireland. After extensive research and preparation, we officially began production in March 2023, offering our unique range of organic cold-pressed oils.

Award-Winning Quality

In our first year of production, we were honored to see our Poppy Seed Oil named a finalist at the prestigious Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards. Our Hazelnut Oil won silver, and our Sunflower Oil claimed bronze at the Blas na hÉireann Food Awards. In 2024, we received three Great Taste Awards: a 3-star rating for our Walnut Oil, 2-stars for our Poppy Seed Oil, and 1-star for our Hazelnut Oil. Our Walnut Oil is also a finalist in the 2024 Blas na hÉireann Awards.
